Capturing Memories.......

When I heard about the 'family portrait' project by Hotpoint I was intrigued..

I grew up in a family full of 'posers'. Dad was a keen photographer and mum loved posing. Naturally a match made in heaven. I'm a dual split of the two of them. I love posing and I love taking photos.

Admittedly my photography whilst not brilliant is helped hugely by having a great camera. Looking back, as a teenager there were times where we'd all be stood posing with gritted teeth whilst dad 'got the right shot'. Many times I recall whining 'no more photos dad, you've taken a million', or 'hurry up dad why can't you just press the button'.

It's only now as a 'grown-up' with my own kids that I can see the true value of all those captured moments. Those brilliant memories. I mean how else are you going to truly remember the dodgy hair, the so called trendy clothes & the hideous make-up.

I love, love, love looking through old pics. I can't wait until my girls are old enough to understand that this was mummy as a baby, or mummy as a child. In my 4 year olds eyes I've always been a mummy.

So, I try to capture as many moments as I can. Family & friends all sit snugly on my laptop (and backed up on a separate hard drive). Birthdays, holidays, nights out, trips to the farm are all captured.

I decided that with all these photos I had to enter the 'family portrait' competition. As the prize is sooo good I had to share this with you (i will however be counting on your vote for my pics!).  I know by telling you I've probably not done myself any favours however I'd love it if either myself or someone I knew won the prize!

So here goes;

The prize: The winner will be flown out to NYC with their family over Christmas and have the most amazing photo shoot with hot shot photographer Steve McCurry.

The rules: You can post up to 10 shots, you and at least 1 family member need to be in them.

The dates: Closing dates Oct 10th 2011. Winner announced Oct 21st 2011.

So all that remains to be said is start trawling through those pics and get them posted. Drop me a line and I'll go and vote. In the meantime I'd love it if you voted for at least one of my pics.  All you have to do is register at Family Portraits. Select gallery, select UK and go to the most recent pics I'm on page 2 & 3 (I think).

Happy journey down memory lane xxxx
