WOW WHAT A WEEK.........

I'll start by saying I’m shocked by all the attention that The Living Gorgeously blog has received over the last week.

It has been great awareness for the mamami brand but has also been a little unnerving.

As a time-starved mummy and business owner I re-posted a blog I’d put up last year. It was an email (as you may know) sent by a girlfriend. It had me howling and crying with laughter. So much so that I felt that I had to share it with as many people as possible. So, in November 2011 I posted ’14 Steps to go through before deciding to become a parent’. Yes it caused some of my friends to giggle and comment, I think I had a total of 3 comments….not bad I thought.

When I re-tweeted and re-facebooked it this year imagine the shock and surprise when the comments started coming in. The comments slowly trickled in, majority of the commentators were on my wavelength and thought it was hilarious others were less impressed. I wasn't sure how to react or whether to respond?! So I didn't...I just kept quite.

I nearly fell over when I found out that The Daily Mail had picked it up, ABC New York phoned me to ask me my thoughts (YIKES) and early this morning I found out that it had also been written about on ABC Australia. A huge number of other blogs took it (and some very kindly linked back to me).

The fact everyone globally has commented, liked and re-posted means that The Steps resonate with parents worldwide. It mirrors parenting themes we all relate to and laugh about.

So having seen the comments continue to flood in I felt I should finally ‘comment’ back,

  •  I didn’t write it but I really wish I had. The person who wrote this has a brilliant sense of humour and has captured some of hilarities of being a parent.
  • Just because a person goes through IVF does not mean they can’t see the funny side to parenting. I myself went through IVF and feel utterly blessed to have two very gorgeous little divas.
    • However this does not mean that I love the sleepless nights (and the wonderful dark circles and puffy eyes that seem to be a permanent feature to my face these days).
    • Or enjoy repeating everything I say a million times (sometimes my jaw aches).
    • I’d also love it if my kitchen remained clean for more than 5 mins. Seemingly not possible with a 2 and 5 year old.
    • And once an anally punctual adult, I’ve now become one of those people you have to wait for! Especially if I’m coming with my girls!
Despite all this I wouldn’t change my role as a mummy for
anything in the world. I spent 4 years trying to get pregnant, I spent an agonizing 9 months praying that everything would be ok with the baby and once my baby girl was born I thought I'd stop worrying and guess what I didn't, she is now 5 and I still worry.

From the moment I laid my eyes on my princesses I felt nothing but unconditional love.

BUT and a very big BUT despite my utter devotion to my divas I have to laugh about my journey as a parent. Mr P and I have been through pretty much most of the 14 steps and for those we’ve not encountered friends have.  Just because you laugh does not mean you don’t care or that you take your role as a parent less seriously.

So on that note a BIG thank you to those of you who have read, passed on and commented on the blog. If you are at The Baby Show this weekend do come over to E82 and say hello in person and finally.....

  1. Daily Mail has just published the correction and the article now list the original author of the story you blogged which was supposedly sent to you by an anonymous friend under the title '14 Steps...'. The author of this parenting test is Jelica Greganović, she is a well-known Serbian journalist, blogger and writer and I think that you should also acknowledge her in this post as the author because her short story is copyrighted and Daily Mail acknowledged that and apologized to her and her publisher for misleading the public in its article that listed your blog and your anonymous friend as the source of the text.

Hopefully all this traffic and viral global interest her story generated for a lot of people ( you included) will raise an interest among publishers and online media outlets in English to acquire rights to translate and publish more of Jelica Greganović's wonderful stories.

(And yes, she has a brilliant sense of humor, and she is a hard working mother of three, and a dear friend who has taught me that coping with parenting ups and downs and stresses is best done through laughing at how ridiculous and hilarious everyday routines can be.)

Here is the link to the Daily Mail article which is now corrected: http://www.dailymail.co.uk/femail/article-2218515/Think-ready-children-Hilarious-new-parent-test-taking-mummy-blogs-storm-MIGHT-just-off.html#ixzz2AO6U7Ipz

  2. Shame on you for not publishing my previous comment - and more than that, shame on you for not publishing the name of the author whose stolen intellectual property generated you so much interest, internet traffic...and money. You are indeed a disgrace to all decent and hard working mothers out there who do not steal from others and if given stolen property by friends return it with an apology when they learn how it was illegally obtained. yugaya

  3. In response to the above two comments;
    A) I never claimed this work was mine. That is pretty clear on both this post and the '14 Steps'
    B) I'm actually also a hard working mother currently away from home and my children working at the baby show. Which means I have only access via my mobile phone.
    C) My plan was NOT to hide this from my readers but to find the original article, find out more about the author & do a proper link back - which is what it deserves.

    1. And finally my admiration for your friend is pretty evident from this post and the previous. I think her article has clearly hit a nerve with parents globally. I'm just disappointed that you would think I stole it.

I think my readers will all agree that that is not my style & I will be in touch with your friend next week when I finish at the show, get back home
